After pounding rain for 12 or more hours, cold temperatures finally transformed the precipitation into dry snow. The cold temperatures, combined with extremely strong winds, turned what was 3-8 inches of standing water last night into a flat surface across the Bay, as though a crew had been out with leveling compound and finished with a coat of bed liner. The dimpling actually provided some traction this morning, until it warmed up a little in the afternoon. Then the ice became slick as usual. Super awesome travel all day either way. Be sure to make navigating the landings a priority when going out, and it’s game on with 20 or more inches of ice. The next two nights, temperatures near single digits should help keep landings intact through the weekend.
