**Well Groomed Paths**
One of my posse and I have been talking about grooming paths on the Bay in an attempt to knock down some of the lumps at landings, as well as pack down a couple of arteries onto the Bay. We all know that plowing snow tends to cause deep drifting, making it miserable for everybody except the one dropping the plow. So, Jonathan Groleau (Wicked Witch Charters) gathered his materials and started fabricating a snow drag. I too have some scrap around to cobble together for a drag and I started to gather materials.
Well, as it turns out, my intentions were thwarted by minor calamities: Mr. B.A. needing urgent transmission service and the suburban suffering 4-wheel drive ailments. So, those obligations took priority and the drag was on the back burner. Late last night, Jonathan sent me a text: “Finished fabricating! I’m heading to the Kipling Launch to see how it works.” I responded, “1 a.m. is my bedtime, and I didn’t get my drag completed; I’ll see you in the morning.”
Around 7 o’clock this morning, I called Jonathan, who was still ripping up the ruts from the landing out towards 1st Reef and back. Job well done! I hooked up his drag this evening and traveled from Kipling to the Red Gate Ice Access, doing some lump leveling up top too. It worked well, and I’m sure everyone will notice the difference between yesterday’s travel and now. It’s almost 0° tonight, and all of Jonathan’s work has paid off big time and should handle heavy traffic on Thursday. Tires packing down snow tomorrow will likely help hold up against the high temperature on Friday, reaching 42°. Once off the freshly groomed paths, travel is pretty easy, as the worst conditions were concentrated at the landings. If you pay attention to where you’re going, truck travel on the Bay is pretty easygoing. So, pay attention.
