A full moon will be on display Sunday, so it’s sure to be an action-packed weekend. Everybody knows that a full moon brings out the crazy. It’s no different on the ice than it is in other places where many people, anglers in this case, frequent. This weekend will be especially busy as the frigid temperatures retreat. Thanks for the ice! BYE!! It’s simply the law of averages: when you gather that many people together under a full moon, craziness is bound to happen. I, for one, as long as it’s harmless and nobody gets hurt, am entertained by such activity. That being said, please exercise some tolerance and offer some courtesies when ice fishing on Little Bay de Noc. Setting up too close to another angler is probably the biggest complaint anglers have. Being less than 40 yards apart on a body of water this size, with so much ice and structure to fish, could be seen as poor ice fishing etiquette. There are measurements of over 20 inches of ice on the upper bay. Snow drifts are rock hard now but will soften with the weekend warm-up and should make for a smoother ride. Departing the Ice after three nights on the bay with not a fish up the hole is frustrating. Marking fish that won’t eat for days is rare but happens. Just did. Our overnight guests Glenn and Steve were gracious and understanding. Steve actually assured me of his understanding. Depending on the game your after it can range from 100% success rate to as low as 7%. Fishing the Noc is sometimes like hunting.
