Expect splendid travel around the Bay, except for areas where you’ve been previously. That path is going to drift over deeper than it was on your way out. Winds have calmed to a steady 10 mph breeze, with gusts up to 20 mph now and then. Trucks are moving around well, but be advised that crossing pressure cracks should be left to other types of machines. The pounds per square inch on a truck tire are much greater than those of lightweight machines, increasing the chances of a tire busting through. Drifted snow conditions on the Bay are manageable for the Suburban in 2-wheel drive most of the time. All landings are looking pretty good, except for trucks off the yellow gate ice access. That’s where a pesky pressure crack runs north and south. Usually, there’s a sign in one direction or another indicating that a pressure crack has formed. However, navigating the ice at night or during poor visibility conditions can result in trouble when crossing what is concealed beneath the snow. I’m sure the ice is getting thicker by the day and will continue as long as this polar vortex hangs around. Auger extensions are going to come into play soon.
