Snow-Covered Bay

The continual snowfall from Friday morning until now has provided a tranquil weekend on the Bay. A nice 6-inch blanket of fresh powdered snow covers the ice. Snow accumulation that didn’t blow away has really helped fill the voids in the slush ruts, making it a smoother ride than it has been lately when getting around the Bay.

If you’re heading out from the Kipling public launch, you may have noticed a large number of Eskimo Hubs around Butler’s Island in the shallows. At first, I thought maybe it was an Eskimo Hub rally. But then I noticed the blocks of ice sitting on top around their Eskimo Hubs. Those are some thick blocks of ice.

Setting the stage in those dark hubs are skilled icemen hoping to lure in the ultimate freshwater predator fish. Northern Pike on Little Bay de Noc best beware. Good luck, Hunters!
