Slippery When Wet

COMMERCIAL VESSEL TRANSIT INTO THE PORT OF ESCANABA, MICHIGAN

SAULT SAINTE MARIE, Mich. – Motor Vessel ALGOMA INTREPID is scheduled to transit the southern end of Little Bay De Noc from Green Bay (Minneapolis Shoal LT) to Escanaba on the 12th and 13th January 2023. The vessel is delivering a load of salt to the community.

The Coast Guard reminds all recreational ice users to plan their activities carefully, use caution on the ice, and stay away from the vessel transit area.

Contact the Vessel Traffic Service at (906) 635-3232 or via email at SOOTFC@USCG.MIL for additional information.

This is certainly something to be aware of if your out hunting walleyes to the south. Up above Gladstone on the Bay we have wet, slippery ice, but it’s in pretty good condition with 6-9”. Cold temps return Thursday night and its going to firm up nicely by Friday morning for the weekend. With no snow on the ice studs are a must as snowmobilers and wheelers without them struggle to get moving.  Fishing pressure has been light and the bite has been very good. Anglers are doing well this week, except for being wet.

I took a picture at the Kipling landing. There’s not much for visibility. Be sure to take a GPS, or better yet, in case the cell phone gets wet or the batteries die on your electronics, consider having an old fashion apparatus called a compass. No power needed.

Increasing your odds,

-Blade
