Today It was back up to center reef to take a closer look at the ice mine field. Accompanied by Marv, a local professional perch angler, we shut down the machine, drilled some holes in the thick mass and discussed how violent Mother Nature must’ve been out here for this to happen. Just then, we witnessed a coyote running at us from the north. With a tap of the horn it stopped in its tracks and I pretended to fire with my finger. Skirting around us on the jagged ice. I thought to myself, Under different circumstances, and not surrounded by houses on Garth point as a backdrop, that thing would’ve been toppled over with a 5.56 round a 100 times over. But that wasn’t the case so we settled for Marv taking a poke at it with his phone. Great shot Marv!! Ice thickened by about 1/2 inch. Though a minimal amount of snow on the bay, it’s a real good insulator. Pressure cracks remain passable. Watch those as they change quickly. Kipling Public Launch, Yellow Gate, Red Gate and the Vagabond all are looking pretty decent. Speaking of the Vagabond, Kenny and Yvonne work real hard maintaining the launch and pay extra money for liability insurance to allow access through their property. They charge five dollars, a minimal amount for that access. Please don’t stiff them and ruin it for others.
