At midnight, it was -21°. By noon, temperatures had risen to a high for the day 30° warmer. That’s a pretty significant jump in just 12 hours. That constitutes a heat wave in my world. It’s amazing how comfortable 10° feels after the bitter negative temperatures of the last few days. Ice gained at least 2 inches in thickness over the weekend. My auger extension goes on tomorrow. Bare ice drilling can probably wait a bit. However, any permanent shack with a 4” floor or more might not find water soon. Travel remains excellent on the bay, but watch for shack scabs; those are holding the deeper snow with hard lumps hidden beneath. Otherwise, it’s been two-wheel drive in the burb most of the time.
