Big Freeze Fishing Derby

The warm but strong breeze out of the south calmed for a period of time today between 5 and 6pm. Then bam! 10mph sustained winds from the north with gusts up to 16mph overnight. That’s a bout half the speed that whipped through a couple nights ago, but there’s still nothing calm about it. The bite continues to be tough.

Over 50 anglers took part in the 1st Annual Big Freeze Fishing Derby today. There were just over 30 fish registered. Utilizing the Fish Donkey app, anglers were able to submit a record of their catch and then release it if they chose to do so. Visit Escanaba put on this successful event that’s sure to get bigger and better next ice season! We’d like thank Morgan from Visit Escanaba for an outstanding job putting this all together (which she did in less than a month.) You ROCK Morgan!

Good tires, chains and shovels are still a really good idea if you’re running trucks on the Bay. Big pockets of snow and slush are eating up trucks out der daily. This photo makes it seem like you can drive anywhere….Looks can be deceiving.

Increasing your odds,
