The long awaited Hard Water Season on Little Bay de Noc is off to a great start. John from Lindburg’s Cove Resort joined me for my first ice checking journey of the season, which has become a tradition for us. Heading north on The Bay, we found 5-6” of rock hard ice with few imperfections between some pressure heaves. Yep those have already started to form. The “Yellow Gate” (previously know as the 1st yellow gate) has provided the majority of anglers a decent route to their spot. The “Red Gate” (formerly know as the 2nd yellow gate or The Days River access) is good so far too. Stay tuned though, signs are evident a pressure crack is likely to develop there too. The Kipling launch doesn’t get you very far. Much like last season, anglers will need to cross the pressure crack there with extreme caution. Ice conditions are excellent with a couple inches of wind blown snow on the surface.
It’s first ice on Little Bay de Noc. Walleye and Pike are on Fire! Perch? Leave your fish counter home and bring a scale. Sunday afternoon Russ Little pulled a 14” plus perch up the hole. Today, Alex Feather landed this perch weighing just over 2 lbs. 6 oz. and measuring 16 5/8”! Nice fish guys! Thanks for sharing.
