Riding shotgun with me again today is my big fella Red. An extended period of above 32° is changing the bay by the minute. All landings are looking good, but use caution. The shallows are certain to be compromised during this warm spell. 8-12 inches of ice throughout the Bay north of the narrows of Gladstone. All the sleet and rain this morning added about a quarter inch of ice. Not just on the Bay. Also, every roadway around for miles into Wisconsin, north to Lake Superior and east across the U.P. Pretty much everywhere! That didn’t stop ice anglers coming from near and far to hit the ice today. Just delayed them a bit. Pressure cracks are going to be challenging with these warm-ups and likely have some open areas of water. Butlers Island and the reef extending off it for 100’s of yards in particular.
