Four More Days

The first of several weather systems came through today, leaving a dismal amount of snow. Ice remains rock hard and can only get better, with teens as the low tonight. Friday is the next snow event, calling for 7-8 inches, and Sunday is expected to bring 11-13 inches. Then there’s even more anticipated for Monday. That’s the forecast; with low water levels over the last few years, any precipitation helps. I’m hopeful for such a forecast, but it seems too good to be true, so I’d bet against it. The ice on the bay is mostly bare and slick, bringing cleats back into fashion. Although the recent snow event was minuscule, the wind on the backside of the front was harsh and felt like single digits ripping across the ice.  Ice conditions are very favorable for all the ice anglers giving it a final go as they close the Michigan walleye season this  weekend. Extreme caution must be exercised near shallow or flowing waters. A good example would be the mouth of the Days River. Pictured tonight is the view looking east towards the open water developing at mouth of the Days River. Stay left using the Red Gate Ice Access.

Increasing your odds,
