Topping 47° this hump day and surprisingly hard to find slush, except in deeper snow from shack scabs. Beaten by the sun, the drifted snow on the Bay has been evaporating just as quickly as it melts. Thursday’s forecast predicts clouds moving in, with rain on the docket for Friday night, clearing out early Saturday morning—preferably before sunrise. It sucks to start the day wet. Traveling the Bay with anything from feet to trucks will be favorable; two-wheel drive is usually sufficient, as most of the snow is packed down hard.
Friends Mark and Kathy Bornemann make a couple of trips to the Noc every ice season. They aren’t novice ice anglers, and they spend most of winter on frozen lakes in northern Wisconsin, Minnesota, and here on Little Bay de Noc. I’m confident they would readily admit that the Bay has kicked their ass more than once, considering the Noc the most challenging waters they fish. Yet, they come back, confident that if Trevor can do it, so can they.
Remember Trevor and his walleye Saturday night? He claims he’s been skunked since then, which just means he had no keepers and likely tossed back some shorts. Long story short, Mark got on the board today, jigging up this 27″, 8.5 lb walleye. You really pissed it off, Mark. Nice fish! Your turn, Kathy.
Increasing your odds,
