It’s 24° with a steady breeze from the south today, putting the wind chill in the single digits. I really felt the impact of that wind chill when I got out of the burb to take a picture of someone riding a fat-tire bike. When I met up with Craig Bengry he was peddling north, and I asked, “Where are you going?” He said he was going up to Garth Point and back. I mentioned, “ It’s going to be tough getting back against this wind?” He pointed to the mask around his neck and said he would cover his face on the way back. I didn’t mean the cold face aspect of it at all; I was wondering how he was going to pedal that bike back south against the wind. I gave him my number in case he had any trouble along the journey. Later, I received a text message confirming that the return was a grind, but he made the trip. When I initially stopped for a picture I was thinking someone riding a bike across the bay would be a great illustration of how ice travel is. There are many ways people can enjoy time on the bay. I haven’t seen the kiteboarders out yet; that’s always cool to see. Enjoy a hike, go cross-country skiing, or even pedal a bike on the Little Bay de Noc playground.
