Overall, Ice on Upper Little Bay de Noc is looking good measuring 6-7”. The weather forecast for making ice sucks pretty bad. Ice will likely be ok throughout the weekend. Ringing in the New Year on the Noc looks iffy. By January 1st the mercury drops and ice will firm up fast.
Pressure cracks are doing there thing. Either pushing heaves or opening up the crack. No matter how you are getting on the ice, watch for those cracks! They change by the minute! I have observed light machines out and about on the bay. If running anything motorized on ice, be sure to verify with your insurance that you have towing and recovery rider added to the coverage. Typically it costs anywhere from $4 to $24 additional per year, but one can literally save tens of thousands of dollars if such an unfortunate event were to occur. Then, when you call Pro Towing and Ryan asks if you’re covered, you can say you are. And you won’t have to call the bank for a loan.
On a fishy note. Did I mention the abundance of fish in this bay. Huge perch, giant pike and walleye. From food to trophies anglers dream about. Chase Moraska from Vulcan joined the 10 pounder club today. Nice fish Chase!
Increasing your odds,
