Winter Wonderland 

Riding out on the Bay this morning in a Pioneer 1000 currently on tires, (aka Mr. B.A.)on a pillow of 5 inches of fresh powder was smooth but not quite. A misty rain wrapped up the clipper system that moved through last night. Leaving a thin crusty layer of ice on top of the snow. Shoreline’s have some slush around them, but travel for the most part out on the bay is wonderful. Touching above freezing briefly today took the snow depth down a bit.  Pressure cracks already have slush developing around them and refreezing overnight. As those areas become wet during the daytime ice gets soft until below freezing temperatures return 24 hours a day. Snowmobile’s, ATV’s, UTV’s and a few vehicles have been on the Bay previous to the recent snow. But no trucks today. And probably wise until we get another good cold spell. Ice conditions should be favorable for the upcoming weekend when temperatures stay below freezing again Saturday. A typical Monday with way less fishing pressure compared to the weekend has turned on the bite with excellent reports from anglers catching walleye, perch and pike.
