The wind died down a bit and the snow has stopped blowing. Frigid temps have been in the works since our high of 24° just after midnight. The conditions yesterday made it difficult to know if you were getting in a slush pocket until it was too late. The brilliant sun today made navigating yesterdays slush pit a breeze. I managed to crawl along in Mr. B.A. The weight distribution provided by tracks helps. Creeping along on a couple inches is doable. Most of that slush has froze then 4 to 15 inches of water before you hit the primary sheet of ice. In short, you bust through and you’re screwed. We still have 8 to 9 inches of good ice north of the narrows by Gladstone. By tomorrow afternoon slush should be frozen solid too.

Increasing your odds,
